Wow, this was just in time, I was really looking for this. For the &lt;a href=&#034;http://rubyforge.org/projects/railsworks/&#034;&gt;project&lt;/a&gt; I am about to launch, I wanted to be able to send email notifications in a secure way and  I was looking for an elegant solution to use GMail&#039;s smtp service to do that in rails, of course ;)  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Now thanks to Peter Cooper, everything is so much clear.  &lt;br /&gt;
